problems during package installation

P: Some big packages (like X.Org) fail to install.

S: The package format (.gem) that is used by ROCK is based upon tar. Unfortunately, tar reads the whole file into memory during extraction. So the problem you are encountering is really an out-of-memory error. Try adding more RAM to the machine or, failing that, more swap.

Boot loader

P: When booting, all I get is GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB ad infinitum. What gives?

S: Check your BIOS settings. If you have your harddisks set to Autodetect, this will happen. Change the setting to User and/or let the BIOS detect the harddisk settings once, not during every bootup.
